Welcome to Mrs Greig's class page!
We are now well into our Autumn topic - The Romans are Coming. We enjoyed a visit to Caerleon to experience what it was like in Roman times. We continue to learn more about the Romans’ invasion of Wales and look forward to carrying out some Roman themed craft activities closer to the end of term. In Science we have been learning about rocks and will be carrying out further investigations such as whether rocks are permeable or impermeable.
Spring Term 2018
Welcome back to the Spring term. Our topic for this term is SCRUMDIDDLYUMPTIOUS. This is a topic which links well to our learning about Healthy Eating, Teeth and Our Sustainable World. We have already made healthy sandwiches with fantastic help from WARBURTONS.
VISIT FROM WARBURTONS BAKERY
On Wednesday we were lucky enough to have a visit from WARBURTONS. we had a fantastic afternoon putting all that we have learned to good use while making healthy sandwiches. We all wore aprons and hairnets and really enjoyed putting our sandwiches together. Then we got to take them home along with a packet of WARBURTONS whole meal toastie pockets. What a great day!
Year 4 Autumn Term
We will be learning about the Tudors in Year 4 this term. We have already visited St Fagans to explore how the Tudor people used to live. We enjoyed a beautiful Autumn day, exploring the buildings and also looking at Tudor clothing.
We will also be learning about how our bodies work in our Science.
ROAD TRIP USA!
Buckle up, sunglasses on - we're going on a road trip
across the good old US of A!
Let's fly across the pond and explore the BIG country.
During this topic we will be using mapping skills to navigate our way around some famous cities. We will find out about famous landmarks and get to know where the many states are. We will find out about the Native Americans. In particular, we will learn about the Iroquois tribe from New York state, through our reading of The Indian in the Cupboard. We will also be learning about Habitats in Science.
Here's a wee challenge!
(You may need to ask your grandparents for help with this one!)
When asked -
'How do you find America?'
(Meaning - what is it like?)
'Turn left at Greenland.'
Ask Mrs Greig for a hint if you need to!
Spring Term 2017
Happy New Year!
Blwyddyn Newydd Dda!
Welcome to the Spring Term in Mrs Greig's class. Our topic for this term is 'TRIBE'.
This is a history based topic where we will be finding out about 'who lived in the Iron Age?' We will want to find out what kind of people they were as well as discovering - when and how they lived; Celtic customs, beliefs and traditions and what happened to the Celts. I'm sure this will be an exciting topic.
We have already been put into Celtic Tribes!
Ask your child what tribe he or she is in!
We also plan to go on a visit to explore real Celtic homes!
More information on that trip to follow!
CHANGE TO PE IN THE SPRING TERM
Year 4 will be swimming every Thursday morning during the whole of the Spring Term, right up to the Easter Holidays. This means we will only have one other PE session to make sure Year 3 do not miss out. This will now be every Monday afternoon. No kit needed on Wednesdays for the Spring Term.
PE days are usually Monday and Wednesday. Please ensure you bring correct kit on these days - a plain, white, round-necked T-shirt and dark (navy or black please) shorts. Jewellery should not be worn and long hair should be tied back.
Our topic for Summer 2016 is Gods & Mortals. This is a topic where we will be finding out about Ancient Greece. We will learn about myths and legends and many of the Ancient Greek Gods and Goddesses. We will explore events in Ancient Greek history such as the first Olympic Games and we will find out how Ancient Greece was organised in small city-states. We will research Sparta and Athens and find out about the Peloponnesian Wars. We will also research everyday life of the Ancient Greek people, finding out what it was like for the rich and poor. In Art and D&T we will look at images of Ancient Greek pottery and discover if their patterns relate to myths and legends. We also plan to create a 3D head of our own choice of god using modroc! In Science, we will learn about the human skeleton and explore how our bodies are affected by exercise. This will link very well with our plan for our own Mini-Olympics, later in the term.
Here's a thought to consider!
'According to Greek mythology, humans were originally created with four arms, four legs and a head with two faces. Fearing their power, Zeus split them into two separate parts, condemning them to spend their lives in search of their other halves.'
Welcome to the Autumn term in Class 6! Our theme for this term is MIGHTY METALS! The main focus of this is Science and we will be learning about materials, forces and friction. This should be an exciting topic and we plan to start with a visit to a local playground where we will investigate the materials used and forces in action. (We also plan to have some fun!)
Here's an interesting thought:
If you were a metal, which one would you be? Gold, a shimmering, precious and costly mineral? Or steel, that strong and useful alloy? Maybe you're iron, malleable and easy to shape, but ready to rust!
Maybe you're not a metal at all - but a force to be reckoned with!
We are now well into our new topic - Burps, Bottoms and Bile! This is a voyage of discovery, investigating the busy world inside our bodies!
We have begun this topic by looking at Teeth. Do you have a toothy grin or a winning smile? What is the effect of sugary substances on your pearly whites? Follow a tasty morsel as it makes its way through your digestive system, helped by some mouth-watering saliva! Mmmm! And don't forget the importance of hygiene - at both ends!
Our PE times are slightly different for the Spring Term. The Year 4 children have swimming lessons on Wednesday afternoons right up until the Easter holidays. This means that they won't be doing PE at any other time! However, until half-term, our class has Football on Thursday afternoons - a little bonus for the Year 4's! The Year 3's will have PE on Wednesday afternoons after half-term. Please remember to send in correct PE kit on the appropriate days.
May I also remind you that we do send homework home once a week at Llwyncrwn! Please support your child's learning by encouraging them to complete this with the necessary care and attention.
Thank you for your continuing support,
Autumn Second Half Term
We have all settled in to our new class - Room 10 - in our fantastic new building. The children have enjoyed taking 'ownership' of the amazing new facilities.
Our topic for this half term is SCRUMDIDDLYUMPTIOUS!
Tuck in and enjoy a yummy journey of discovery, tasting fantastic fruits, venerable vegetables and tantalizing treats!
Work up an appetite with delicious stories about food, have fun with a vegetable orchestra or become a fruity sculptor.
Find exciting recipes to read - and write your own too.
Then get busy in the kitchen making tasty dishes from across the world and discover how good food helps you grow fit and strong.
And here's food for thought - if you are what you eat ... what does that make YOU?
Welcome to the Autumn term in Class 6! Our theme for this half term is -
I am Warrior! The main focus of this topic is History; learning about The Roman Empire and its impact on Britain. We will discover warring Britain and find out what the Romans did for us. This will be an exciting topic and we will find out lots of interesting facts such as:
Scotland was not part of the Roman Empire. Emperor Hadrian ordered a wall to be built to defend the Roman Empire against Scottish tribes. Hadrian's Wall stretches about 73 miles from Bowness, on the west coast, to Wallsend on the east coast: you can still walk along parts of it today!
Our PE days are Monday and Wednesday. Please send in correct PE kit of dark shorts - navy or black, and a plain, white round neck T-shirt. You may leave this on a peg in school until Wednesday if you wish.
