On this page you will find our class news and lots of pictures showing you what we have been getting up to this term.

In our class we aim to have lots of fun whilst learning new things. Diolch.

General reminders:

P.E. for our class is on a Wednesday. No kit is necessary.

Please clearly label all cardigans and jumpers. 

On Wednesdays the children are welcome to wear joggers/ leggings and trainers.

Reading: reading books will be sent home once a week on an allocated day for each child.

Reading at home is extremely beneficial for your child. We appreciate your support with reading and spelling.

Please return book and record book the next day and make comments whenever possible.

Book bags can be purchased for 50p from school.

Fruit: Children can bring a piece of fruit for snack time.

If your child has trouble peeling their fruit please could you make sure it is already prepared for them to eat. Also if they are having grapes please could these be cut in half and not whole.

Milk will be provided in school or the children can have a drink from their water bottle.

Mathematics: As we are focusing on symmetry in maths this week, please could pupils complete the symmetry matching and symmetry sorting online activities on: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/5-7-years/geometry

Year 2 have had an action-packed week this week! They have also been busy rehearsing for the upcoming Christmas show - well done to everyone for learning their lines - please keep practising! 

A big welcome back to all of the children after half term. It has been lovely hearing and reading all about their news and Halloween fun! Please note your child will bring a slip home each Friday to inform you of which spelling unit your child should practise over the weekend in readiness for the following week. Thank you for your support. Here are some of the activities we have been getting up to in class this week.

Launch Day- Monday 8 th September 

Our whole school topic this term is ‘This is me’.

We will be finding out about the children’s lives,their family and friends and what is special to them.

As part of our topic launch day please could all children bring their favourite toy to school on Monday to show the class.

Croeso I Blwyddyn 2

Welcome back class!
It was lovely to see how you had all grown and hear all about your summer holidays.

Our end of term party was a great success.  A big thank you to mums, dads, nans and gramps who provided spectacular dinosaur themed party food. 
Dosbarth Apple enjoyed playing pin the tail on the TRex and feed the TRex, dancing and eating!!😂

Dosbarth Apple had a wonderful time at Parc Play.

For our School’s diversity themed Summer Fete this year Dosbarth Apple produced artwork using Aboriginal dot patterns. Their dinosaurs turned out fab!

Week 5 

Wow! What wonderful dinosaur skeletons Dosbarth Apple made for their home task.

They were all very proud of their art work.

Measuring dinosaurs with a footprint ruler.

Week 4

Half Term - Home Task

Please could you help your child to make a dinosaur skeleton.

First draw. the outline of your favourite dinosaur.

Choose what you will use for the bones.

You can use pasta shapes, q tips, straws and maybe small sticks.

Stick inside your outline.

Please make sure that your child is involved in making their skeleton as they will be presenting their model to the class and talking about how they made it.

Maybe you could give your dinosaur a name.🦕🦖

Please can all models be brought to school by Monday 2nd June.

 Week 3

Dosbarth Apple 🍎 have been busy making a picture of Albie, his mum and a colourful rainbow for our Albie the Adventurer wall display.

VE Day celebrations.

Dosbarth Apple looked at a PowerPoint presentation to learn all about. VE Day and made a Union Jack crown to celebrate the 80th anniversary.

Week 2

Dosbarth Apple 🍎 went to Cardiff Museum and took part in a dinosaur workshop with Megan. Everyone was excited to handle dinosaur teeth, claws and even dinosaur poo!

They worked hard in groups to build a nest for their dinosaur eggs and enjoyed the story about Albie the Adventurer.

     Summer Term 2025

Welcome back everyone we hope you all had a lovely Easter spending time with your families.

This term our whole school topic is called 

“Step back in time”.

Our class topic will be all about Dinosaurs 🦕 

We will be looking at timelines and discovering when certain dinosaurs roamed the Earth.

We will learn the names of lots of dinosaurs and find out facts about them.

 
Topic launch day - Tuesday 6th May

Dosbarth Apple 🍎 will be going to Cardiff Museum to take part in a Dinosaur workshop.

Week 9

Working in pairs to solve the problem of the missing underpants.

Week 8

Dosbarth Apple 🍎 enjoyed listening to our new story, “ Aliens love underpants”

Dosbarth Apple used Discovery Dog to help them plan their investigation on waterproof materials.

They looked at the skills that Scientists need to do their job.

Week 7

Dosbarth Apple 🍎 continued their D/T project by learning about pivots and levers.

Using this method they made split pin Welsh dragons. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Da iawn pawb🌟

Dosbarth Apple 🍎 celebrated Dydd Gwyl Dewi by singing Aderyn Melyn .

Week 6

This week Dosbarth Apple 🍎 started their design technology project, how to make a moving picture. First they looked at books with moving parts to see how they had been designed.

They then learned how to make a slider mechanism.

Week 5

This week Dosbarth Apple 🍎 have been celebrating Children’s mental health week.

This years theme is ‘know more, grow more’.

Dosbarth Apple discussed what makes them happy and thought of things they could do if they were feeling sad or frustrated.

On Friday they were asked to wear their own clothes which makes them happy 👍

Dosbarth Apple worked in pairs to write and draw a story map about The Smeds and The Smoos.🌟 Da iawn pawb you worked hard in your pairs.

Week 4

Dosbarth Apple have been learning all about ordinal numbers.

They ordered their own group and drew a picture to show the positions.

They listened to the story of how the years in China got their name. They then ordered the animals as they finished in the race.

We found out all children born in 2018 are the Year of the Dog and 2019 the Year of the Pig.

Week 3

Dosbarth Apple 🍎 have been using their good listening skills in P.E learning to stop and go and find a space.

The Criw Cymraeg came to visit and played Welsh games on the iPads with Dosbarth Afal for Mr Urdd day. Everyone wore gwyn, coch a gwrydd . Da iawn pawb 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🌟

Week 2

Dosbarth Apple have been learning about part-whole models to help with their subtraction and addition.

Drawing the view of the far- off planet of the Smeds and the Smoos through the window of a rocket.

 Dosbarth Apple have been busy in the areas carrying out their tasks independently.🌟

Week 1

Dosbarth Apple 🍎 had a busy week getting back into routine after their Christmas holiday. We discussed our new topic and did our EPIC ( every person in class) planning for this term to find out what activities they would like to do or things they would like to find out.

They all enjoyed looking at the books about space and finding their favourite page.

 SPRING TERM 2025

Happy New Year everyone. We hope you had a lovely Christmas and enjoyed spending time with your family.

Monday 13th January Topic Immersion Day

Our whole school topic this term is ‘STEMTASTIC’ , where we will be developing our science and technology skills.

We will be having an immersion day on Monday to launch our exciting new topic all about Space - Out of this World.

Please can children come to school dressed in either RED or BLUE clothing.

All will be revealed Monday!

If you have any large/ small boxes or any plastic containers ready for recycling please could we have these for class.

Week 15

Dosbarth Apple 🍎 had a lovely Christmas party. They all looked wonderful in their party clothes.

After their party food they played pass the parcel, musical statues and chairs and finished off with some Christmas dancing. 
 

Week 14

This week Dosbarth Apple enjoyed their Christmas dinner.

They have also been very busy making all their Christmas craft.

Week 13

What a busy week we’ve had in Dosbarth Apple🍎.

First we had our Christmas concert performances which we hope you all enjoyed.

All the children worked very hard and did us proud. Da iawn pawb🌟

Thursday saw us visit the Parc and Dare to see the pantomime Aladdin.

Everyone had a wonderful time.

Then Friday it was Christmas jumper day. Thank you all for your selection boxes👍

 Week 12

This week Dosbarth Apple have been learning about data handling.

They worked in groups to find out how many boys and girls on their group.

 Week 11

Dosbarth Apple 🍎 have been using their measuring skills and using cubes to show the height of different trees.

Week 10

For Remembrance Day on Monday Dosbarth Apple took part in a 2 minute silence at 11 o’ clock to remember all the people who died in the wars. 

This week we also discussed how to be a good friend as part of Anti- Bullying week.

We made a kindness heart on Wednesday for World Kindness Day and for Children In Need everyone dressed in their Pudsey clothes and made a Pusey necklace.

Week 9

🌳🌲🔍 Outdoor Learning Week🔎🌲🌳

This week Dosbarth Apple had fun learning outside.

They first collected natural materials from around the school. They then worked in pairs to find something taller and shorter than their chosen measuring stick. Fab measuring everyone🌟

             🪙 The 5p Challenge.🪙

The Friends of Llwyncrwn are running a challenge for every class to collect the most 5p’s to fill a class bottle.The class with the most will be rewarded with either a pizza party or a doughnut disco.

The challenge is running from Monday 4th November until Friday 6th December.

So Dosbarth Apple get collecting. Look down the side of the sofa, the bottom of your mums bag, in your dad’s pockets or under the seats in the car and see if you can find some 5p’s to put in our class bottle.👍

Week 8

This week Dosbarth Apple enjoyed doing an obstacle course in partners. They used good communication to lead their partner who was blindfolded around the course. Da iawn pawb🌟

Dosbarth Apple listened to the story Rosie’s Walk by Pat Hutchins

They then worked in pairs to create a map of Rosie’s walk around our school.

Week 7

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Criw Cymraeg/ Year 6 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 came to work with Dosbarth Afal on some Welsh apps on the iPads for  Diwrnod Shwmae. Diolch pawb👍🌟

Week 6

This week Dosbarth Apple 🍎 have been finding out about everyday materials.

First they sorted natural and man made materials. 
Then they worked in their groups to find and sort materials in our classroom.

Finally they went on a  hunt around the school to find objects made out of certain materials.

Week 5

Dosbarth Apple worked in pairs to think of who works in our school. They wrote a list then chose someone to draw and wrote about their role/ job. Da iawn pawb👍

Dosbarth Apple 🍎 have been working in pairs to find different ways of sorting objects. Da iawn pawb🌟

 After our discovery walk around the school. we have been drawing maps of our school to show where everything is.

Dosbarth Apple decided to make a model to help them with their map drawing.

Week 3

Dosbarth Apple have been learning to write and order the days of the week. Da iawn pawb🌟

Week 2 

This week Dosbarth Apple had their 

launch day for our new topic ‘My School’.

 The children enjoyed comparing themselves now with their first photo in Reception.

  End of Term

Celebrating our end of our topic on Minibeasts.

Dosbarth Afal had a great Minibeast party. Thank you mums and dads for providing fabulous minibeast themed food. It was wonderful👍

The children enjoyed playing games, dancing and singing songs.

 Sports Day

Unfortunately the weather was against us this year to hold our sports day outside. However all the children did their races inside and had a fab time.

 Dosbarth Apple had a fantastic time in Parc Play.

                Problem Solving 

Dosbarth Afal enjoyed working outside in groups to solve the Snail Trail problem.

They used equipment and drew pictures to help them find the answers. Da iawn pawb🌟

 This week Dosbarth Afal has been learning about snails.

They decided they would like to have some garden snails in the class to see how they eat, move and sleep.

First they thought about what would make a good habitat for a garden snail and made a checklist.

Using their checklist they went outside to collect all the things they needed. Then they made the habitat in our bug cage.

Finally they collected some snails from the allotment.

 Feeding the snails some snail soup. Everyone enjoyed observing how the snails eat and move.

 Dosbarth Afal had fun making their paper plater spiders and weaving their webs. 

 Dosbarth Afal went on a minibeast hunt around the school.

They were able to cross off lots of minibeasts on their worksheet.
